A three-year-old boy was seriously hurt after ending up in a crocodile enclosure at Johnsons of Old Hurst zoo. This upsetting incident happened on Thursday afternoon in Cambridgeshire.
Police have arrested a 30-year-old man from Norfolk on suspicion of attempted murder. Officers do not believe the man and the child knew each other.
The boy was taken to Addenbrooke’s hospital with serious injuries. He is currently in a critical but stable condition. Police are investigating how the child entered the enclosure and if animals were involved.
The zoo has closed its tropical house out of respect for the boy and his family. The rest of the zoo remains open as usual. They have asked that all questions about the incident go to Cambridgeshire police.
Witnesses reported that staff and members of the public helped rescue the boy from the enclosure. A local person mentioned the boy suffered a broken pelvis and arm, but thankfully the crocodile did not harm him.
