His success was not only due to his usual supporters. Many people from various political backgrounds, including those who do not typically vote Labour, chose to support him.
Mr. Burnham won with a large majority of 9,231 votes over the Reform UK candidate. Labour received 55% of the votes, while Reform UK received 35%.
Voters shared that they wanted to support Mr. Burnham to counter what they saw as divisive politics from other parties. Some who usually vote for other parties felt he was the best choice to achieve this.
Even some who previously supported Reform UK decided to vote for Mr. Burnham this time. They expressed a desire to stop Reform from winning in their area.
