Cheltenham General Hospital has admitted it failed to provide safe care for a patient, Chris Elliot, who sadly died. He was exposed to harmful bacteria from a contaminated shower while receiving chemotherapy.

Mr. Elliot, 59, was being treated for leukaemia. A dangerous bacteria, pseudomonas aeruginosa, was found on a shower head in his room over a week before he was admitted, but no action was taken.

His widow, Victoria Elliot, shared her family's deep pain and frustration. She stated that the trust delayed admitting responsibility, making their grief even harder.

The Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust admitted a criminal offence for not providing safe care. They were fined £300,000 and have apologized to Mr. Elliot's family.

The hospital's chief executive expressed deep sorrow for the tragedy, saying it should never have happened. They have stated that steps have been taken to prevent similar incidents.
